The next day
.
.
.

Late into the night in the Waking sands, no one seemed to be around, the only sounds coming from down the hall.
Swinging her kicks into the air and then bracing for impact on the tall Auri, Xiela inhaled and exhaled in time. A solid thud was muffled.

‘More.’Throwing sloppy punches and agitated twisted kicks, Xiela huffed.‘MORE.’Landing on her back, pain shot through her. Rella glanced down from above.

“You're not focused.” Rella said in a neutral tone, offering her a hand.“I am completely focused. Again. Come on!” Xiela said through gritted teeth.

Sidestepping Xiela's lunged punch, Rella narrowed her eyes onto a weak point. She watched the angry girl fall back onto the ground.
"Watch how your opponent moves closely. I step forward before I attack. When you attack on the right, you leave yourself open on the left."
Xiela tried again, watching Rella's steps. As she stepped forward, Xiela was able to dodge her attack. Taking the offense she attacked on the left, Xiela turned her attention to her right. Rella swiftly attacked her from the front, and Xiela found herself on the ground once more."Make sure you're focusing on all angles." Rella offered her hand again.Xiela smacked Rella's hand to the side, rejecting her help.
"Show off. That's all you ever do when we fight." Annoyance is clear in Xiela's voice.
"I'm trying to help you improve, and in order to do so, you need to be aware of your flaws and openings." Rella calmly explained.Xiela stumbled back onto her feet, struggling to hold herself up.
"And you don’t have any? Miss perfect, are we?" Xiela said angrily, blowing off steam on Rella, planning to continue as she readied herself to throw another attack.
“You're done for today. Rest.” Rella turned and started to walk away.Lately, their training sessions had been less and less, Xiela barely saw her best friend and it was irritating. During Xiela's time in the Far East and Ala Mhigo, Rella was constantly missing from her side, leaving her feeling like she was only there when it was convenient. To Xiela it felt like she was pulling teeth to have any shred of Rella's attention, and it angered her. To Rella, she was giving Xiela what she always wanted, Xiela wanted the spotlight and she would let her have it.“We aren't done here. We barely started!” Xiela said firmly and bristled in tone.“You are too eager to strike, you leave an opening. If that's how you want to fight, you are lacking speed.” Catching Xiela off guard in a quick movement, Rella upturns Xiela's leg and leaves her flat on the ground. Her words coming out pained, ego hurt from the constant missteps.
“You always seem to criticize me, rather than help me.” Starting to get back up from the ground readying her next offensive.
“I'm trying to help you, Xiela.” Rella's voice still neutral, her demeanor unphased by her aggressive companion.“What about…” swinging another kick and missing, “...in actual battle?! You don't help fight, and now…" Her voice became even more heated, “...you're barely even there!!”“Xiela, you asked me not to assist. I'm tired of watching from the sidelines, and I would rather be somewhere where I can be of use.”“And what? You're just going to listen to whatever I say?""I made a promise to you." Rella said with a slight sadness."You speak of a promise I don't even remember! And for what..?! You leave my fights to be with him? To be with Urianger?! Is he really just your friend? What is he to you, that I'm not?!”“Xiela.” Rella's calm demeanor, turning into irritation. Making it clear in her tone and a sign to Xiela to let it go."You would follow in his lies if Urianger asked you to, wouldn't you?” Xiela yelled. Not a moment passed, Rella said with no hesitation, “I would.““I hate you!! I hate him! I hate everyone in this stupid place!!” Continuing to throw her tantrum like a child who didn't get their way. He was getting all of Rella's attention that Xiela wanted for herself. Rella was reaching her limit with her.Staring daggers, walking closer to Rella, her hand pointing at her accusingly, Xiela threw Rella's warning to the side.“You think you're so much better than me! When actually, you're hiding what you really are! Does he know?!” Xiela kept poking at Rella's emotional wounds to get a reaction.

“Xiela!” Rella gave her final warning."He doesn't!!!" Xiela says with a cold mocking laugh.
Xiela's voice dropped low, her tone becoming even and calculating. Her aim was to hurt.
“If you're so fearless, she would still be here.”Shoving Xiela back, to have some space in between them Rella's eyes shot back anger and resentment

“-Don’t!”Not backing down, yelling out a statement that could not be ever easily taken back.“Moenbryda would still be here! He would be with her! Not you!”Silence took over the training room, Xiela’s words were so cruel it twisted something within Rella so deeply.

Knocking the wind out of Xiela as she crashed into the wall breaking a good portion of it. Dust scattered across the room as Xiela laid crumpled on the ground. Vision was going in and out, her breath was ragged trying to recover air into her lungs.Within their training, as a mentor Rella was always careful not to ever hurt Xiela. A full force could easily deal heavy damage to a normal person, a clear result in front of the exhausted friend.“Don't speak on things you know NOTHING about!” The tall woman yelled in pain.“I have done nothing but care and sacrifice myself for you!” Shakiness crept into Rella's voice. A stark contrast to the usual stoic nature she wore."When have you cared for me? You treat me like I'm nothing but your servant!""I'm not fearless, and I'm not perfect… I have emotions! There are so many things I regret, with many tears shed along with the pain I've faced… How can I share how I feel when you're too immature to handle your own, and I'm the one busy easing your pain?!" Rella yelled with tears in her eyes."I've put up with you for so long, I've had enough."The dust began to clear, as Rella walked away.Coming to realize that she had spoken so out of line, so cruelly to her best friend, reaching a shaky hand out of the rubble, Xiela tried to look at Rella.“N-no.. wait.. come back.. I'm sorry-.. I'm so sorry..” Only whispers come out of her mouth, the fire and spite long gone, leaving only a poor pathetic soul.Shakily she tried to lift herself off the ground to catch up to Rella to apologize, but unsuccessfully she crumbled under her own weight. Wincing in pain as it shot through all her limbs, screaming at her to stop she didn't want to give in.Long gone were the days where they would spend together, training in secret, them against the world.

Regret washed over her. Her words were so cruel, and she spoke them to someone she considered her best friend, someone she claimed to care for. Reaching a shaky hand out of the rubble, Xiela looked to Rella. Her voice was weak and breathless, “N-no.. wait.. I'm sorry, I didn’t—”

“—Don’t.”This time, Xiela listened.Xiela could no longer fight back the impending darkness. After repeated attempts to stand she finally fainted and collapsed to the ground, leaving the observing figure no choice but to lend their aid.

Rell...

.......
.
.
It wasn't long after, some sort of sickness? Overcame them all.

One by one.. they all succumbed to slumber.
Alive yet.. unresponsive.
My only friend, who I even lost then, gone.
Not even her body I found.

Alisaie...
Why didn't I listen.

Being the last scion.. leaves me with little resolve to move forward, but I am not completely heartless...
I will protect these people.

Even if this is my last chapter.
